About the event

Reading the Mountain

Snowpack · Terrain Traps · Wind · Recent Snowfall · Weather

The mountain is constantly changing. Learning to read it is one of the most important skills for anyone heading into the backcountry.

This talk will help you understand the key elements that shape snow stability and avalanche risk — from recent snowfall and wind loading to terrain traps, slopes and weather evolution.

We’ll look at how to observe the mountain, connect the different pieces of information, and make more informed decisions before and during a day in the backcountry.

Talk first. Good food after.
